Athena: *sits on the floor near me and stares until she has my attention*
Me: "What's up, tinycat?"
Athena: *walks over to the couch, sits down, stares at the couch blanket until she has my further attention*
Me: "Do you want me to get your blankie off the couch and put it on my lap so you can sit on it?"
Athena: "Meow."

I now have a blanket and a very happy cat on my lap.

It's past midnight.

I heard the distinct sound of horking.

The cat has appeared and is staring smugly at me.

There is no sign of puke or hairballs anywhere I can find.

Time to start taking bets on where I'll find it just before I have to leave for work tomorrow...

So, Tianna and I went to the Avs game yesterday. It was a very spur-of-the-moment thing -- "hey, they've still got $25 tickets for sale, wanna go?" -- and it was totally worth it. Even though my voice hurts today. (The seats themselves were great, too -- top section, back row, behind the right goal. We had possibly the best view of Darcy Tucker's goal.)

On the way back, we decided that Oscar Wilde and Freddie Mercury would totally be best friends if they'd been contemporaries.

Aaaaaand now the cat's attacking one of my reusable shopping bags.

So, yesterday my sister brought her boyfriend's kitten over for the morning (long story).

In addition to being a one-person cat, Athena is emphatically a one-cat cat. And she's that one cat.

We kept the kitten in my bedroom, as it's the most feline-friendly single room in the house. As you can imagine, Athena was Not Pleased and hasn't set paw in here since she came in to hiss at the kitten (who's an adorable tortie/tabby fluffball named Yahtzee, btw).

Or at least she hadn't until a little while ago.

My sister came in from work at around 10 PM and must have done something to startle the cat, because I heard paws full speed on carpet... then on hardwood... and then a skittering sound and a clonk.

She ran into the wall under my bed.

When I saw her face when she crawled out -- she looked dazed, and annoyed that someone had dared put a wall there -- I couldn't stop laughing.

And now she's gone back to avoiding my room. Good thing I'm changing my sheets tomorrow.

(On the plus side, this has finally gotten her to quit sleeping on my computer case.)

The cat is kittyloafing on top of my cell phone.

I'm tempted to call it just to see what happens.

...The cat seems to like Farscape.

She was sitting in my lap and looked up and noticed it, and stared for a good minute. She's never done that whenever I've watched anything else...

Cats are bizarre. But at least mine has good taste.

Dear Athena:

You do realize that you have nothing to worry about when I trim your claws, right? Especially with the claw trimmer gizmo we have. The only danger is when you move. Keep in mind that out of all the claw trimmings I've done, you're never the one who comes out bleeding.

Isn't it about time to return the favor?

Alternately, you could keep your claws less sharp. It can't be comfortable to have them as long as they were. I know they get stuck in the carpet when they're that long. You can't sit in anyone's lap without turning them into a human pincushion.

So please, quit making this hard on both of us.

I still love you, even though you're not talking to me.

I miss my cat.

I do not miss trimming her claws.

Guess what chore hasn't been done since, oh, August? (I just checked in my phone call home earlier today)

I don't suppose any of you Denverites have a pair of heavy work gloves I could borrow?

But, on Saturday night, there's gonna be a furry lump trying to sleep on my face and getting pissed at me when I move.

It'll be good to be back.
