The NHL (or possibly NBC) is using "John's Walk" from Ink as the background music for one of their "oh hay it's the playoffs" ads.

I now know how it feels to be a dog who just heard a doorbell.

(To be fair, I also knew this feeling last year when John Murphy's "Adagio in D Minor" from Sunshine got used in an ad for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.)

Actually sung to my boycat this morning:

Hey dude
Don't bite my leg
Learn your lesson
And behave better.
Remember, your teeth are really damn sharp.
Could you please start
To behave better?

Me-ow me-ow me-ow me-ow me-ow me-ow hey!

Meow, meow meow mewmeowmow, mewmeowmow, hey dude. x(infinity)

So, [livejournal.com profile] mbif won my hat auction at [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti. I actually finished her first hat a little while ago (I was on a roll). [livejournal.com profile] skywhisperer came in second, and since she donated anyway and asked very nicely and I need to get rid of all this extra yarn, she'll be getting a hat too. (Plus, I'd forgotten how much I love working with wool. With acrylics, you're either working with something that feels like fiberglass, or you're working with stuff so full of fabric softener that you can't keep it in your hands. Wool is fun.)

Day 20 → A hobby of yours
Would it be redundant at this point to say "crochet?"

Day 21 → A recipe
Ummmm... I can give you the number to the best local pizza place.

Seriously, though, I'm a sucker for peanut butter balls. They're super simple to make, too. Mix equal parts peanut butter, honey and powdered milk (though you may need extra milk, depending on the consistency). Form them into balls. Freeze them if you want - it's great when it's like 105 out.

Day 22 → A website
Here's my Subeta referrer link. I'm a minimod there. If you like it, do sign up and let me know. I help moderate the Help forum, so I might be a bit biased, but I enjoy it there.

Day 23 → A YouTube video
And I'm going to use this space to showcase the runners-up for the "song that makes you cry" day. Neither of them actually make me cry, but they make me all shivery and parts of them just make me go "wow."

My squee got long. I cut because I love. )

The remaining days )

Holy crap, was today ever fun. Exhausting, but fun. Also, the Avs game was awesome.

Also, hats.

Day 16 → A song that makes you cry (or nearly)

Most recently? Promise not to laugh?

"For Good" from Wicked.

So, I've had the Offertory from Faure's Requiem stuck in my head all day.

I opened up iTunes and set it to completely randomize everything in hopes of something else crowding it out.

Guess what the second piece to play was?

So, Tianna and I went to the Avs game yesterday. It was a very spur-of-the-moment thing -- "hey, they've still got $25 tickets for sale, wanna go?" -- and it was totally worth it. Even though my voice hurts today. (The seats themselves were great, too -- top section, back row, behind the right goal. We had possibly the best view of Darcy Tucker's goal.)

On the way back, we decided that Oscar Wilde and Freddie Mercury would totally be best friends if they'd been contemporaries.

Aaaaaand now the cat's attacking one of my reusable shopping bags.

With 37 minutes to go until the end of the day, my iTunes decided to play "Tuesday Morning" by Melissa Etheridge. Today, of all days. *sigh*

(Also, evidently "Reefer Madness" is on TV right now. o.O)

So. I just now finished my paper. (Yeah, yeah, I know. Stuff it.)

The song that comes on my iTunes shuffle as I save it?

Barenaked Ladies - "Who Needs Sleep?".

*dies laughing*

(Why no, I'm not punchy. Not at all.)

Ahahahahaha.

So I'm in the library, working on the annotated bibliography for my senior paper on Irish poetry.

The song that comes up on Pandora as I continue bashing my head against the reserve readings:

U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.

That's just right. On so many levels.

Also? Paul Muldoon is an awesome, awesome person.

Also also, the due date for the "rough" (read: 20 pages of something I'd be willing to turn in as a final draft so that the professor can tear it down systematically) draft got moved. ARGH.

There's nothing like being alone at work and creating a Pandora station based on Queen.

Except maybe table drumming to "Another One Bites the Dust."

And lip synching to "More than a Feeling."

And ew ew ew not more Journey. Journey bad. At least this time it's not "Don't Stop Believin'," which still gives me flashbacks.

And now. I'm supposed to be getting actual work done.

Yay four-hour shifts of nothingness!

OK, so I picked up a copy of the Herald-Leader on the way out from dinner and just got to actually looking at it a little while ago.

As today (well, yesterday now) is apparently some holiday about love or something, the lifestyles section had a nice, long, colorful collection of quotes about love. Quotes, song lyrics, stuff like that.

The one that caught my eye?

"You get me closer to God" -- Nine Inch Nails, "Closer"

Um. Either the person who put that in there didn't actually listen to the song or s/he has and thought it would be hilarious to include. Either way, it is. Hilarious, that is.

Maybe they put in a call around the office for love quotes and an intern from UK decided to slip that one in. That wouldn't surprise me in the least.

But now I'm gonna have that stuck in my head and funny as it is, I don't really like the song...

Altos get no love from Gabriel Fauré. None.

At least we get to help the five tenors out during the very long stretches where we have nothing else to do.

And it's a metric fuckton easier than Stravinsky.

Mondays may be shit schedule-wise (barely get a break from 8am to 9pm) but I'm going to love them.
hopefulnebula: Mandelbrot Set with text "You can change the world in a tiny way" (Default)
(OK, I take that last bit back. Being alone in the complab is great when "Bohemian Rhapsody" comes up in the shuffle and you spend a full minute not realizing you're singing along.)

So. I got pissed at a certain overpaid backup goaltender--what else is new?--and decided to excise my anger with filk.

What other than "Someone Is Crazy" by Jonathan Coulton could I use? I mean, it's like the perfect breakup song, and has just that perfect amount of anger and snarkiness. So. Go click that link and take a listen, then come back and read.

I bring you: Someone Needs a Firing.

Of course, the Avs would turn their game around just as I finished this. )

Well. I *should* have been done with my oral exam an hour ago.

They're running late.

Figures.

However, while I've been waiting, I've been catching up on my friends page. And while looking up a few of Jonathan Coulton's songs for an unenlightened friend, I found that he's recorded Re: Your Brains in French.

It doesn't need any more commentary than that.

Holy crap. They're playing the star trek theme in the metro station.
