OK, I told [livejournal.com profile] twirlandswirl I wouldn't be explaining my Avenue Q (mis)quote until tomorrow.

I was wrong. Can't resist.

OK, so. Last night was actually much better than the night before. Surprising, since they all came back totally blitzed last night. Night before it was five or six mostly sober people trying to calm down the three or four wasted ones. Anyway, we all get on the first train okay. Everybody else is either hung-over or still drunk. There's an amusing incident involving an escalator in the metro station getting to the train station. (No injuries.)

The schaddenfreude part?

I knew our rail passes didn't work in the Czech Republic. So did all of they. That's not a big deal, since you can pay for that leg of the trip on the train. It was 10 euro coming in, and 25 on the way back because it was a different carrier. The thing is, they all spent their train money on booze because the one guy who'd been there before said "oh, they never actually ask for payment."

So the entire rest of the group got booted from the train before we even got across the border. They all wanted me to stay on the train, since I could pay and that way at least one of us would be able to get in touch with the directors and let them know about the delay. They have an alternate itinerary, but it's a tight squeeze, and if they miss one connection, they spend the night wherever they are. I'm not worried about them, though. Despite my whining, they're resourceful, and there are nine of them--it's not like they're totally helpless. Also, none of them have class until 1PM tomorrow.

As for me? I made it into Dresden, but missed my first connection. No big deal, there are plenty of others. So I go to the ticket kiosk dealie to make reservations, since I have time. I get an itinerary with fewer transfers than my original one. Everything goes well, I get seats in everything, et cetera, et cetera. I go "ohshit" a lot when my train is 8 minutes late and I'd originally only had a 7-minute transfer time--and my connection is still there.

Damn, I should have bought a lotto ticket today.

EDIT: They just got on the train to Strasbourg. See? I knew they'd be OK--it was just a matter of when.
