Jun. 8th, 2005 07:53 pmWell, they've completely bagged the automated baggage handling system at DIA. Maan, that takes me back. It's not like they were able to use the whole thing at all anyway. The "world's most sophisticated baggage handling system" ended up delaying the airport's opening nearly a year, chewed up more baggage than it correctly delivered, and lost United a shitload of money. I'm surprised they didn't scrap it sooner.
I'm also glad that I've only flown ticketed on United twice. Every other time has been standby because my dad used to work for UAL, and with standby, you are exponentially better off if you can fit everything you're taking into your carry-on luggage.
It'd have been nice if it had been viable, but.
You know, the only time I've ever lost luggage was flying USAirways back from Paris, and that wasn't a huge thing. The computer that kept track of the luggage in Philadelphia had crashed and so not all the luggage got on the right flight. It arrived on the next flight in, about an hour later. At that point, I was jetlagged out of my mind (although not nearly as badly as I had been travelling east) and didn't really care if I had everything that day. Saved us a few hours driving, though.
There, enough reminiscence for one day.
ETA: I totally didn't mean that pun. "Bagged the automated baggage system." Heh.
