Jul. 25th, 2004 08:26 pmHad a nice chat with my mom this morning about some logistical college stuff. Namely, credit. We'll hold off on a credit/debit card decision until we talk with the people at the bank, of course, but I'll def. be needing a checking account.

Date: 2004-07-26 09:20 pm (UTC)I'd recommend you not get a credit card as well. While the idea of increasing your credit rating looks good, in reality 3 or 4 years isn't going to make that much of a difference in the long run, and the interest charges probably will be stupidly high. With a debit card you'll have a fixed limit (i.e. how much money you've got) and should encourage you to budget (which I'm sure you do anyway), which, from a pseudo-professional point of view is a very good thing.
*takes of hat*
I would like to add the minor caveat that I know nothing about the American credit card system, so you shouldn't take my word as gospel. In the long run, the only person who can make the decision is you.
