Aug. 16th, 2004 07:43 pmGot my laptop today... should arrive within the week. Sony Vaio... don't remember the model number but it was the best one in the store. The kind that has a TV tuner built into the docking port too. Glad that that's out of the way. I can't wait until it arrives. I need a tech geek to help me here: Is there any specific file that holds my bookmarks? I don't want to have to do that all manually but I will if I have to.
Congrats

...the Favorites folder will probably be shaped like a star, too.
If ya don't have XP, then just do a search (Start Menu-->Search-->Search for Files and Folders) and type in the name of one of your bookmarks. Then copy the folder it leads you to into the new computer (into the place I mentioned above).
Is that too technical? If it is, do tell me.

Date: 2004-08-17 08:49 am (UTC)Go to the Bookmarks menu and click "Manage Bookmarks". In the Manage Bookmarks box that pops up, go to the File menu and click "Export". All your bookmarks are transferred to a single HTML file which you can copy, email etc. to your new laptop. Then you repeat the steps but you click "Import".
Oh yeah, one other thing. If your home PC uses Windows XP, there's a wizard for moving your files and settings to storage media (CD, usually) to be transferred and imported on the laptop.
Grab me on AIM sometime if you want to talk it through. I am still so stoked that you're a college girl! :-)

Date: 2004-08-17 03:58 pm (UTC)The Windows XP "Files & Settings Transfer Wizard" does not work with Firefox settings etc. Bummer, I know, but it's designed to work basically with "My Documents", your user profile, and Internet Explorer.
I'll be online tomorrow to talk more about it... but out tonight. Hope all's well at your end.

Date: 2004-08-23 09:18 pm (UTC)Yeah, this is great. It's an A190 and I haven't even touched the docking port and speakers. They're heavy enough that we're shipping 'em. But I can't wait to use its TV capability. I love this comp. :D
