Mmm, power outages are teh fun. Even if your lappy's battery life didn't totally and utterly bite, I doubt it would do you any good -- when you poofed from IRC, I was looking around for a webcam, and couldn't get to your college's site, and still can't -- so internets are likely down on your campus.
