Oct. 11th, 2004 01:04 pmThere's a very annoying stoplight/talking walk sign on the highway in front of my dorm. Beeps every second or so when it's not safe to cross and says "Walk sign is on" when it is. One of these days I'm going to take it apart and see that the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation built it, and I'm going to laugh. It's just so damn cheery.

Date: 2004-10-11 08:17 pm (UTC)I think you just haven't gotten to know the crosswalk system well enough; I know that it's helped me out of some tough spots before. I remember once last year when I was swamped with 2 papers and a midterm within 3 days of one another. I was on my way to Yerkes for a study session, despairing out loud about it and worrying about whether I would be able to handle it all, and the crosswalk said to me, "Walk sign is on." It was right, of course; standing around moping about it wasn't gonna help. I had to move forward if I was gonna succeed. Maybe it seems silly, but that was the encouragement I needed to get my work done.
Anyway, all I'm saying is, don't be so quick to judge. You have to look beneath the surface to find out what a piece of electronic traffic-directing equipment is really like.
