Adventures in public transit, take 2
Feb. 10th, 2009 09:10 amToday has sucked. Even the good things that have happened have all directly led to bad things.
Bad thing: I overslept.
Good thing: When I got up I still had 20 minutes to get dressed, brush my teeth, et cetera. Which is just barely enough time.
Bad thing: Being rushed led to me taking my wallet out of my bag (to fit my lunch in it).
Worse thing: Said wallet contains not only my ID and credit cards but also my bus pass.
Good thing: The bus driver waved me onto the bus no questions asked before I could even reach into my bag for my wallet. One of the perks of riding the same bus daily, I guess.
Bad thing: I didn't realize at this point anything was missing.
Worse thing: There was a very loud, very obnoxious guy on the bus. If it hadn't been 8:15 in the morning, I'd say he was drunk.
Good thing: I made it onto my connecting light rail with about 1 second to spare before the doors closed and stayed closed. Even got to hold the door for the person behind me.
Bad thing: The friendly local fare inspectors also chose to ride that particular train. This is when I realized I had no wallet and $1.00 in dimes in my pocket.
Worse thing: Said friendly local fare inspectors have quite the thing for power trips. Also, since I didn't have ID on me, I had to verbally give the inspector all my personal info. So now the entire crowded train car knows who I am. (I doubt they care, but still.)
Good thing: I'm pretty sure (see: "power trip," above) they let me off with just a warning, so long as I pay the fare for my return trip. And the stop I got booted off at was my usual stop anyway.
Bad thing: You know how I mentioned I had $1 in dimes in my pocket? Yeah, the fare is $2. Which means that in order to get home today, I'll have to use my lunch break to go to the bank. Can't use the ATM because that requires a card, so I'll have to fill out a withdrawal form and all that jazz. So much for eating lunch during my lunch break.
I know there are a lot of you who are going through worse right now, but I really needed to whine about this. I'm not angry about getting in trouble like I did, either; they were just doing their job. I just can't believe I was stupid enough to do that.
