Seriously, though, Pete Coors--owner of Coors Brewing Company and inventor of Coors Light (he invented it in the basement because his dad didn't want Coors to make a light beer)--ran for Senate. He lost--not spectacularly, but by enough. His main campaign promise? Lower the drinking age to 18. *puts on thinking cap* At least his reliance on that promise abated after a freshman at CU (party school of the West), a student at CSU, and a student at Colorado College all died from alcohol-related problems. (The first two were caused by acute alcohol poisoning. The third drank waaay too much and fell out her fourth-story window. And I'm not including the several DUI fatalities that always come with the school year.) It's like having the NRA host its convention in Denver after the killings at Columbine... every right to be there, but not enough grace to stay away.
