1. I hadn't even heard of these...and although it is total crap that they want him to remove any mention of God and other religious stuff from the movie...I can't say I'm all that surprised. >_<
I'd lend you my copy of the first book but I only have the French version here. For some reason I can't find my copy of The Golden Compass (American title for Northern Lights) at home or here. But the trilogy is based on Paradise Lost. I mean, honestly. *sigh*
Is it really based on Paradise Lost? I mean, besides the 'war against heaven' thing? And how's it possible to remove the church from these books? How? HOW?! I mean...they could be called communists, instead, I s'pose. But then they'd have to change the angels into...flying commies, and God would be a...um... I don't know. The article says it best:
"You have to recognise that it is a challenge in the climate of Bush's America."
Good work on the A... as for the HDM movie, sadly that's the way it goes sometimes - the biggest part of the movie industry in the US is the domestic gross, and Hollywood has to tread carefully for fear of offending the religious groups. I'd rather they didn't interfere with it, but then I believe they had to go to great pains with Hellboy to avoid offending the audience - strange, when Kevin Smith had renegade angels mowing people down with machine guns, the Buddy Christ, Mooby the Golden Calf, and Alanis Morrissette as God.
Yeah, if you do one thing, one group is all over you about it, if you do the other thing, then the other group is on you because of it. Bush's America at work.
