Well, I'm back.  All's well.  Cab fares are ridiculous.

By the way, I am now the proud owner of The Sims 2.  Long story short, Laura got it as a gift but can't use it on her comp (wrong video card) so I get to take care of the game until they get a new card.

Cab fares are exceptionally reasonable when you compare them to the cost of buying, running and maintaining a car. I don't drive, never have, and am a cab-user. Have been for years. Why buy a car of my own when I only need them maybe once a fortnight for five minutes? Chuck them $10 (including tip) and be done with it - rather than $50 a week insurance, petrol and then the cost of the vehichle iteself. Be pleased for the freedom!

Would be nice. I'm not complaining about not having a car. But getting to and from the airport cost me $130--more than I spent on gifts. My flights were at odd times so I couldn't hitch a ride.

Yargh! That's crazy!
Don't you have some sort of commuter service, like a train that goes there? Most Australian capital city airports have train services that run from the suburban rail networks out to the domestic and international terminals from the central stations for about $10

Oh, would that there were. Unfortunately, this is Nowheresville and it's not between anything so running a bus doesn't cut them enough of a profit.

What kills me is that even if I don't have a car (which I don't), if I learn to drive and as a result get my driver's license, then the insurance would increase a lot on all three cars (one of which doesn't work at all and another of which I wouldn't touch unless my life were *already* in danger).
