I was going to post this last night, but spent most of the night fighting Satan's own sinus headache. (And I don't even have a sinus infection, is the thing. There must be something I'm allergic to.)

Also, it may not be the first thing I've had in the paper (I'm an intern there, after all), but it's what I want to be remembered for.

Y'know, I always roll my eyes at the trend status autism has gotten over the past few years (& it IS trendy, especially when Hot Topic kids self-diagnose to seem edgy) becasue I remember 20 or 25 years ago when that reply to "I/he/she am/is autistic" was "...Artistic? Like a painter?" Now it's "Oh, AUTISM! I read about that in USA Today! It's a terrible shame.." And out of curiosity I look at things & read about "revolutionary new techniques in therapy" & "communicative advances" & see names of so-called pioneers...& all I can think is, "Uh...my mom was doing that in 1987 when everyone told her she was off her nut."

Yah. There's a difference between "autistic" and simply "socially maladjusted." It's why I tend to be wary of the ages 13-18 crowd if they say they've never seen a specialist in their life but are autistic. The trouble is--especially with older people--is if they're "high functioning" enough (read: trained to act normal), and they're laughed out of offices when they find out about AS or other ASDs because "you're obviously functional enough to use the phone/get yourself over here, so you can't be on the spectrum at all."
